THE MANY USES FOR ESSENTIAL OILS

Essential Oils are the diffused, reduced, or extracted oils from plants. The ‘essence’ of the plants, therefore called essential oils. You may use essential oils for their fragrance, as in a diffuser, or in other aromatherapy applications. But as good as essential oils smell, they have a myriad of uses. These include medicinal, mood enhancers, beauty applications, anxiety and stress relief, and cleaning, both personal and household. We will outline and offer applications for many of those applications in this blog.

Let’s start with a universal application, aroma, and aromatherapy. Many people use essential oils in diffusers to create positive scents throughout their house. Eucalyptus, Lavender, Rose, and Lemon oils are perfect for spreading positive scents throughout a room. The word aromatherapy implies a healing quality from the oils, and the following oils can be diffused in a room to deal with the following mental conditions:

  • Rose otto cypress is recommended for prolonged sadness
  • Bergamot, lavender, ylang ylang or chamomile can be used to diffuse anger
  • Cypress, ylang ylang, or frankincense deals with fear of failure
  • Lemon Balm can heal and prevent herpes, ease nerves and sleep disorders.

Chinese medicine believes that Sandalwood disperses ‘evil-disease-causing winds. And Bergamot can be used to calm dogs during a storm if used in a vaporized form.

Here are a few medicinal applications for physical ailments:

  • Chamomile is used as an antibiotic, analgesic, and can be used to reduce the inflammation of your nasal passages
  • Lavender oils are used as antiseptics, anti-inflammatories, and analgesics.

Beauty applications abound with essential oils. Perfumes, bath salts and bombs, skin-healing, skin care like skin tightening and wrinkle reduction.

Patchouli, cinnamon, and Rose oils are great for perfumes. Lavender, lemon, and chamomile oils are perfect for bath salts and bath bombs. And for skin applications, consider Rosehip Seed oil, sandalwood, lemon, rosemary, and myrrh essential oils.

Now let’s look at some powerful essential oils for cleaning. Lemon oil is a natural, and you see ‘Lemon-scented’ cleaning products on every shelf of cleaning products in the store. But you can create your own recipes using lemon oils for jobs from the laundry to the kitchen, and from your furniture to the floor they sit on.

If you want a powerful odor fighter and cleaner, try tea tree oil. Use it to treat those really smelly areas of your house, like the garbage can, your gym bag, and your shower curtain.

Bergamot is a citrusy-smelling oil that is great for cleaning surface areas of the kitchen and bath. It can also remove residues like tape, labels, price tags and other adhesives.

Using essential oils to create cleaning products for your home also provides an additional health benefit. If you are making cleaning products, in addition to the natural oils, you will be mixing them water, vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, Castile soap, baking soda, and other more natural products. You are not adding chemicals and additives that have the potential to do more harm than good. Your home will be cleaner and healthier!
